The kids of Ganado Townhall Players return to the stage to present our 6th Summer Youth Play with our hilarious presentation of "Typecast."
Typecast is a comedic high school play about the challenges of casting and self-perception. The story begins with auditions for an upcoming production of Cinder White, where drama teacher Ms. Thespis is greeted by a group of students each with a distinct “type” — the diva, the quiet girl, the nice girl, and others. To her, casting seems straightforward. However, when Ms. Thespis falls ill with appendicitis, gym teacher Ms. Ball steps in to direct the show. She takes over partly out of guilt for balding Ms. Thespis’ pet ferret. The twist is that the students have all been mysteriously cast in the “wrong” roles: the “nice girl” becomes the villain, the diva is given only two minutes onstage, and the quiet “ensemble” girl is now a leading role with actual lines. As these characters are thrust into unfamiliar territory, they must confront their self-image and learn to “play the roles they’re all totally wrong for.” The play uses humor and relatable situations to explore the theme of typecasting — both in theater and in life — and how stepping outside one’s “type” can lead to personal growth and unexpected opportunities
